Riley is surfing the web when he comes upon a word he doesn’t know.

Riley: Hey Shane, what does the word “coupon” mean?

Shane: Well… a “coupon” is “a portion of a certificate, ticket, label, advertisement, or the like, set off from the main body by dotted lines or the like to emphasize its separability, entitling the holder to something, as a gift or discount, or for use as an order blank, a contest entry form, etc.” [Dictionary.com, January 19, 2012]

Riley: You read that from somewhere – I could have done that… but what does it mean?

Shane: I think you pay less for something if you have one. Why?

Riley: Well, on Google Places and Merchant Circle, Fur-ever Friends has a coupon.

Shane: Really? What are the sites?

Riley: On MerchantCircle.com, all you have to do is type “Fur-ever Friends” and “Newark DE” in the heading and it will take you to their site (http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Fur-ever.Friends.Doggie.Daycare.3025335435). On Google Maps, I clicked on where it said “1 offer” which took me to the coupon.

Shane: Cool! Does it look like this? {coupon}

Riley: How did you do that? Yes, it looks just like that!

Shane: Not bad for a blonde lab, huh?

Riley: I’m impressed! Let’s go show Dad and Mom!

They did and their Mom and Dad were impressed. What other pair of dogs writes a Doggie Bloggie and then can do the techy stuff? And while you are in Merchant Circle or Google, you can write something about our services. We would appreciate that! Thank you!

Riley and Shane talk about Fur-ever Friends being open for Christmas and New Year’s!

Riley: well it looks like the Shopping Day was a success! We had 12 dogs come and stay with us!

Shane: Wow! And now here we are into the holidays already. Do you remember all of the food and presents from last year?

Riley: Yes, but Mom said it will be different this year. We will be staying with some of the dogs whose Mom and/or Dad has to go away and can’t take them.

Shane: Oh boy! That means we can play and have fun inside and if it’s not too cold, we can run around outside!

Riley: That’s right. And Mom signed up to be there on Christmas with the dogs bringing treats just like Santa!

Shane: What about New Year’s?

Riley: Well, Shane, you and I and Mom and Dad will be there New Year’s Eve all night just in case there are fireworks or other loud noises. Some dogs get very afraid of noises and we will all be there to help make the New Year one that is fun rather than have them be in crates or pens somewhere else. But after midnight, I know I will be tired and will want to go to bed!

Shane: Me too. Well, I can’t wait for Christmas and New Year’s so we can spend time with our friends!

Riley: We have a lot of practice to do between now and then sniffing out where our presents are and practicing ripping the paper off! So we have to go. Say Good bye Shane and wish everyone Happy Holidays!

Shopping Day December 17th

Shane and Riley want to tell everyone about our SHOPPING DAY this coming Saturday. We will have daycare available from 7am until 7pm for $20 and for an additional $10, you can extend this until midnight. After midnight, boarding fees apply and you can pick your dog up in the morning. This way, you don’t have to worry about getting home to walk or feed your dog. We can do both and play with them so they won’t be lonely at all until you pick them up.

Open Christmas and New Year’s

Riley: Hey Shane, guess what?
Shane: What?
Riley: Well….we are open for boarding on Christmas!
Shane: Is that a good thing?
Riley: It’s good for the people who need a home away from home for their dog if won’t be home.
Shane: Ooooh. And I know something you don’t know.
Riley: What?
Shane: We are open New Year’s Eve too!
Riley: Oh no, will there be fireworks?
Shane: I don’t know, but if there are, we will tell the dogs that don’t like them that it’s okay.
Riley: I can do that.
Shane: So how do the people with dogs sign up?
Riley: All they have to do is call.
Shane: Call what?
Riley: Use the telephone and call.
Shane: Oh. I knew that. (I didn’t but don’t tell Riley.)
Riley: If they call our Dad and Mom at 302.533.5435, they can get a spot.
Shane: A spot?
Riley: You know…make sure their dog can come and stay with us.
Shane: Oooooh. Anything else?
Riley: Not that I can think of…I’m hungry!
Shane: Me too! Let’s find Mom and Dad and tell them.
Riley: I’ll race ya!

Coupons

Shane: Do you collect coupons, Riley?

Riley: Only for my favorite treats!

Shane: Well, if our customers look, they will find some really good coupons for Fur-ever Friends.

Riley: As long as it doesn’t involve a bath, I am fine with it.

Shane: Uh…. sorry to tell you, but there is a coupon for 25% off grooming services until 12/12. And another one for $5 off any service (daycare, boarding, and grooming).

Riley: Time to hide under the bed. See you on the 13th!!

Thanksgiving

Riley and Shane wanted to share that on November 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st, Fur-ever Friends will be closed.

Shane: Why?

Riley: Because Mom’s Uncle Bill is turning 80 and there will be a surprise party for him.

Shane: Can we go?

Riley: No, because it is in Florida and that is pretty far away.

Shane: What if people want their dog groomed?

Riley: Well… if there are enough people who want grooming on Monday the 21st, we can be open for that only. But they have to let us know soon.

Shane: I’ll miss Mom and Dad while they are gone.

Riley: Me too….

Sad News

On October 13th, Princess Mia Rivera passed away. Her passing was sudden and was due to cancer. We are a family at Fur-ever Friends and we grieve her loss along with her family. The Rivera family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Tess and the kitten

This blog is about Tess. Sometimes it’s fun to tell stories about what the other dogs do when they are here. Tess and Charlie come here once a week during the school year. We love having them here and they have even been the “Dogs of the Month”. Tess and Charlie got a kitten at home. Since the building that Fur-ever Friends is in has shelves from the previous owner and they would have cats board here – and walk around the office, Tess is convinced that there is a cat in the office or the kitchen. She checks every shelf and every corner looking and looking for a cat. She has yet to find one, but that doesn’t stop her from looking. Each week, same routine. There is a part of me that wants to put a stuffed animal on the shelf, but somehow, for Tess, it won’t be the same! Keep looking Tess!!

doggie school

From Riley: Hey Shane, have you ever been to dog school?

Shane: What do you mean?

Riley: Well, when I was a puppy, I went to puppy school and learned to sit, wait, stay, lie down, touch, “leave it”, heel and lots of other things. It was a lot of fun because every time I did well, I got a goodie.

Shane: I like goodies! How can I get some?

Riley: Well, this lady is coming here to Fur-ever Friends to show us how to do these things.

Shane: Here? Well, that’s good, because I am already here!

Riley: I think Dad put her website and other information on the “resources” page. Do you want to go?

Shane: YES!!!!! I can’t wait!

Many of us complain that our dogs pull us when we walk them. Taking training classes trains the owner and the dog. It will pay off in the long run when your back doesn’t hurt, your shoulder isn’t sore and your dog isn’t choking at the end of the leash. Let us know if you are interested or contact Joan directly.
